TVK chief and Tamil superstar Vijay is set to be questioned again by the CBI in connection with the September 2025 Karur stampede that claimed 41 lives and injured over 60. The actor requested a fresh date citing the Pongal festival, which the agency accepted.
Vijay was previously questioned for nearly six hours at the heavily secured CBI headquarters in Delhi, arriving in a black Range Rover with colleagues from his Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), including Aadhav Arjuna. He was questioned about his role in the rally during which the tragic stampede occurred and left the premises around 6:15 pm. Several TVK office bearers and former Tamil Nadu ADG S Davidson Devasirvatham have also been questioned in connection with the case.
Delhi Police and Central Armed Police Forces were deployed due to anticipated crowds of supporters, though around 40 fans managed to slip in among media personnel.
The investigation is being conducted under Supreme Court oversight after the apex court in October 2025 ordered the CBI to take over from the SIT. A three-member supervisory committee, headed by former Supreme Court judge Ajay Rastogi, monitors the probe. The court emphasized the need for a fully impartial and independent investigation, noting the nationwide impact of the stampede and the political sensitivity surrounding the case.
