In a significant crackdown on cybercrime, the Commissionerate Police on Sunday busted an inter-state cyber fraud gang in Bhubaneswar, arresting 12 individuals. The operation, conducted jointly by Badagada Police Station and the Special Squad of the Commissionerate Police, followed intelligence inputs on organised cyber fraud activities in the city.
The accused, primarily from Bihar, Kerala, and Odisha, were operating from a rented house in Bhubaneswar’s Badagada area, which served as their base for executing large-scale online scams targeting victims across multiple states.
Police seized around 60 mobile phones, laptops, gift cards, and lottery cards during the raid, all reportedly used to carry out fraudulent schemes and cheat people through various digital platforms. Preliminary investigations suggest the gang ran a well-organised network, using multiple mobile numbers and digital identities to defraud unsuspecting victims.
Authorities confirmed that the accused may be linked to several cyber fraud cases, with the exact number of victims still under investigation. Further inquiries are ongoing to trace the money trail, identify additional victims, and determine potential connections with other cybercrime networks nationwide.
