The clash at Baramunda Bus Stand began when an Ama Bus allegedly forced an auto-rickshaw aside on Baramunda Road, sparking a heated argument that turned physical. In protest, members of the Online Auto Drivers’ Mahasangh blocked all outgoing city buses, causing major traffic disruption.
Authorities, led by Bharatpur police, intervened and restored normalcy, with services resuming shortly after. Preliminary reports indicate that the Ama Bus conductor and driver allegedly assaulted auto driver Pradyumna Kumar Padhi, who sustained injuries.
Online Auto Drivers’ Mahasangh president Dinabandhu Nayak condemned the incident, calling for better training and behavioural improvements among Mo Bus staff and highlighting rising public dissatisfaction with Ama Bus services. CRUT, meanwhile, claimed the auto driver was at fault, alleging he was under the influence, instigated the argument, and blocked the bus, and said it intends to file a police complaint against him.
This incident follows a series of recent Ama Bus-related mishaps, including a fatal collision at Rupali Square, a bus fire near Kalinga Studio, and multiple crashes in December. The Chief Minister and transport authorities have intensified driver checks and issued directives to improve service and ensure passenger safety, as public concern over road safety in the capital continues to grow.
