In view of increasing air pollution levels, the Odisha government has enforced a series of restrictions in the twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack to improve air quality and safeguard public health.

According to officials, all civil construction activities—both government and private—will remain suspended daily from 6 pm to 10 am. Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) have been issued, and district collectors have been instructed to strictly enforce the guidelines.

Forest, Environment and Climate Change Minister Ganesh Singh Khuntia stated that the decision was taken to curb pollution in the twin cities. He said an SOP has been prepared and communicated to the concerned authorities to ensure effective enforcement of the restrictions.

Additional curbs have also been imposed on activities contributing to air pollution. Burning of garbage in open spaces and the use of coal in roadside eateries and dhabas have been strictly prohibited. Movement of heavy vehicles during night hours has been restricted, and demolition or debris-related activities will not be allowed within municipal limits.

To control dust pollution, authorities will conduct water sprinkling on national highways three times a day. The police and Regional Transport Office (RTO) have been directed to strictly enforce the ban on truck movement within city limits.

The minister warned that stringent action would be taken against violators. These measures aim to bring down pollution levels and protect public health as air quality continues to remain a major concern in Bhubaneswar and Cuttack.
