Agni Dev Chopra Denies PSL 2026 Registration, Calls Reports “Fake and Misleading”

Cricketer Agni Dev Chopra has firmly denied reports claiming he registered for the Pakistan Super League 2026 auction, calling them false and misleading. The son of Vidhu Vinod Chopra and Anupama Chopra clarified that his focus remains on building his cricket career in the United States.

Agni Dev Chopra, rising cricketer and son of filmmaker Vidhu Vinod Chopra and film critic Anupama Chopra, has shut down speculation linking him to the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2026 auction. Responding to reports that claimed he had registered for the upcoming season, Agni Dev termed the information “fake and misleading” and urged people not to fall for misinformation.

The controversy began after Agni Dev’s name appeared on a list of players allegedly registered for the 11th edition of the PSL. The list, reportedly available on the Pakistan Cricket Board’s official website, identified him as a US citizen with a base price of PKR 600,000. The claim quickly gained traction due to Agni Dev’s Indian roots and his growing reputation in domestic cricket.

Taking to Instagram, Agni Dev categorically denied enrolling for the Pakistan-based T20 league. His statement was later shared by his mother, Anupama Chopra, further amplifying the clarification as discussions spilled over into both cricket and entertainment circles.

“Fake and misleading reports are being circulated in my name regarding a tournament. I would like to clarify that I have not enrolled for the PSL. I remain fully focused on my cricket journey in the USA and my long-term career goals. I request everyone not to fall prey to misinformation,” Agni Dev wrote on his Instagram Story.

Born in Detroit, Michigan, Agni Dev holds an American passport and has been eligible to represent the United States. However, reports suggesting he registered as an overseas associate player for the PSL have now been firmly denied.

A standout domestic cricket recordAgni Dev Chopra has built an impressive résumé in Indian domestic cricket up until 2025. He has featured in premier tournaments such as the Ranji Trophy, Vijay Hazare Trophy and the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, establishing himself as one of the most consistent performers at the domestic level.

His breakout season came during the 2023–24 Ranji Trophy Plate campaign, where he finished as the tournament’s leading run-scorer. In his debut first-class season, Agni Dev amassed 939 runs at an exceptional average of 78.25, earning the Madhavrao Scindia Award, officially recognised by the BCCI.

He also created history by becoming the first player in first-class cricket to score centuries in his first four matches, underlining his immediate impact. The following 2024–25 season proved even more remarkable, as he scored over 1,800 runs in just 11 first-class matches at an astonishing average of 94.94.

A left-handed batter who also bowls right-arm off-spin, Agni Dev has consistently showcased his all-round potential and adaptability across formats.

With his clear denial, Agni Dev has now put an end to speculation surrounding the PSL, reiterating that his priority remains building a long-term cricketing future in the United States rather than pursuing short-term franchise opportunities.
