Actor Mouni Roy has shared a detailed account of alleged harassment she experienced at a recent public event in Karnal, Haryana, drawing attention to safety concerns faced by performers at large gatherings. The actor said she felt “humiliated” and “traumatised” after being subjected to inappropriate physical contact, lewd remarks, and a lack of support from event organisers.
In a series of Instagram Stories posted on January 24, Roy described how the incident began as she entered the stage area, where some male attendees allegedly placed their hands on her waist while attempting to take photographs. Despite repeatedly asking them to stop, she said her requests were ignored, adding to her discomfort.
The situation reportedly worsened during her performance, with Roy alleging that a few individuals standing close to the stage made offensive remarks and gestures. She said she initially tried to handle the situation calmly and continued her performance, but the behaviour persisted. According to the actor, neither family members present at the event nor organisers intervened to address the situation or remove those involved.
Roy also expressed concern over being filmed from inappropriate angles during her performance and questioned the lack of basic respect and safety extended to artists invited to perform at private and public celebrations. She highlighted that such experiences can be especially intimidating for newcomers in the industry who may not have the confidence or support to speak up.
Calling for accountability, Roy appealed to authorities to take action and put measures in place to ensure safer working conditions for performers. She stressed that artists attend such events to earn an honest living through their craft and deserve dignity and protection while doing so.
Mouni Roy, who began her career with television shows such as Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi and gained popularity through Devon Ke Dev…Mahadev and Naagin, was most recently seen in the film The Bhootnii.
