Bollywood actor Akshaye Khanna is currently basking in renewed appreciation following his powerful performance inDhurandhar. As his portrayal of Rehman Dakait continues to trend across social media, several of his past interviews have resurfaced, revealing an unexpected detail about one of Hindi cinema’s most cherished films,Taare Zameen Par.
While the 2007 classic is widely regarded as one of Aamir Khan’s most defining works, not many are aware that the role was initially envisioned for another actor. Years later, Akshaye Khanna shared how he almost became part of the iconic film.
In an interview given six years ago, Akshaye Khanna revealed that he was the original choice forTaare Zameen Par(2007), a film that eventually marked Aamir Khan’s directorial debut. He explained that filmmaker Amole Gupte did not approach him directly, as they were not personally acquainted, and instead narrated the story to Aamir Khan, who was a close friend.
Akshaye recalled that Aamir insisted on listening to the script before making any recommendation. “Aamir being Aamir said he couldn’t recommend a script without hearing it first,” Akshaye shared. After hearing the narration, Aamir connected deeply with the story and decided to take the film on himself.
Aamir Khan later confirmed a similar account during a conversation withLallantopsix months ago. He said Amole Gupte had narrated the story to him with the intention of approaching Akshaye Khanna. However, Aamir admitted he was surprised that the film wasn’t being offered to him directly and said he had never imagined himself being considered for the role.
When asked if he felt he had missed an opportunity, Akshaye responded with humility, stating that he could not have portrayed the role better than Aamir. He added that destiny played its role and that the outcome felt right.
The revelation offers a rare insight into how chance, friendship, and timing shaped a cinematic classic—serving as a reminder that some films ultimately find the actor they are meant for.
