Ramlila Actor Playing Ravan Loses Eye After Arrow Misfires in UP’s Sonbhadra; Case Filed

A man portraying Ravan in a Ramlila performance in Uttar Pradesh’s Sonbhadra district suffered a serious eye injury after an arrow shot during the enactment went off target. Police have registered a case against the actor playing Ram and the event organiser under the SC/ST Act and other relevant laws.

A Ramlila performance in Uttar Pradesh’s Sonbhadra district turned tragic after an actor portraying Ravan sustained a severe eye injury when an arrow fired during the enactment accidentally struck him. The incident occurred on November 13, 2025, during a Ramlila programme held in Shahganj.

According to police, Sunil Kumar was playing the role of Ravan, while Naitik Pandey portrayed Ram. The event was organised by Ramsanehi Singh. During a scene depicting the battle between Ram and Ravan, the arrow shot by the actor playing Ram reportedly missed the intended target area on the crown and struck Sunil Kumar directly in the eye, causing serious damage.

In a complaint filed on January 23, Sunil Kumar alleged that despite bleeding and severe pain, neither the organiser nor the actor who shot the arrow helped him obtain medical treatment. He further claimed that requests for financial assistance for treatment were ignored.

The complaint also alleged that when Sunil Kumar and his family approached the accused the following day seeking help, they were subjected to abusive, caste-based remarks and threats. Sunil’s brother claimed that on November 14, he visited the organiser and the actor again for medical support but was allegedly insulted and chased away.

Sunil Kumar further alleged that when he initially approached the police after the incident, no immediate action was taken. After reviewing the matter, Shahganj Police registered a case against organiser Ramsanehi Singh and actor Naitik Pandey under provisions of the SC/ST Act and other applicable sections.

Police officials said further investigation into the incident is ongoing.
