A devastating fire broke out in a four-storey furniture shop in Nampally, Hyderabad, on Saturday, killing five people, including two children and an elderly woman. The victims were trapped in the basement, which contained furniture, chemicals, mattresses, and foam, and was also used as accommodation for a security guard’s family.
Rescue operations involved multiple agencies, including the police, fire services, NDRF, and HYDRAA. The Telangana government has promised support to the victims’ families, and a criminal case has been filed against the shop owner for violating fire safety guidelines. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
