Assam was rattled by a 5.1 magnitude earthquake early today, according to a report by the National Centre for Seismology (NCS). The tremor was recorded at 4:17 am in Morigaon district, located on the southern bank of the Brahmaputra River. The earthquake occurred at a depth of 50 km, indicating a moderately shallow quake that was felt across surrounding areas.
Authorities have confirmed that, despite the tremor, there were no casualties or major damages reported. Residents in Morigaon and nearby districts described feeling the sudden shake, prompting temporary panic, though normalcy was restored quickly.
