A tragic incident in Kozhikode, Kerala, has once again highlighted the dangers of viral accusations and digital shaming. A 42-year-old man allegedly died by suicide days after a video accusing him of harassment on a KSRTC bus went viral across social media platforms.

The video, reportedly posted by a woman passenger, rapidly gained traction online and crossed over two million views before it was taken down. During this period, the man faced severe online abuse, public judgment, and social humiliation even before any formal investigation could establish the facts.

Police officials said the man was found dead at his residence, and an unnatural death case has been registered. According to his family, he strongly denied the allegations and was under extreme mental stress after the video spread widely. They claimed he felt mentally cornered due to continuous online attacks and fear of social stigma.

Authorities are now examining the circumstances surrounding the viral video, including its circulation and the impact it had on the individual. The incident has reignited public debate in Kerala over responsible social media use, due process, mental health awareness, and the real human cost of online trials conducted on digital platforms.

Legal experts and mental health professionals have urged the public to avoid sharing unverified accusations online, warning that viral shaming can have irreversible and tragic consequences.
