Gold and silver prices continue to hover near record highs in both domestic and global markets, prompting investors to tread cautiously. After a sharp rally over the past few months, the key question is whether current levels still offer a buying opportunity or if it is wiser to wait for a correction.
Market experts maintain that the broader trend for precious metals remains bullish, but stress that timing has become increasingly important.
MCX Gold is trading close to its recent high of Rs 1,43,173 and continues to display strong upward momentum. The technical structure remains firmly bullish, supported by a consistent pattern of higher highs and higher lows.
Commenting on the domestic market, Ponmudi R, CEO of Enrich Money, said gold remains well placed within an ongoing uptrend despite elevated prices. He noted that a decisive breakout above the Rs 1,43,000 level could push prices towards Rs 1,45,000–Rs 1,48,000 in the near term.
However, he advised against chasing the rally. According to him, a buy-on-dips strategy in the Rs 1,38,000–Rs 1,40,000 range remains preferable, as long as this support zone holds.
On the global front, COMEX Gold is consolidating near $4,628 after hitting successive lifetime highs. Prices are holding comfortably above key technical supports, including the rising trendline and the 20-day exponential moving average in the $4,500–$4,587 range. The earlier resistance zone of $4,500–$4,550 has now turned into a strong support base.
Ponmudi said the current consolidation reflects healthy profit-booking rather than any sign of trend exhaustion. He added that sustained strength above $4,650 could trigger the next leg higher towards $4,750–$5,000 in the coming months, supported by central bank buying, safe-haven demand, and expectations of a more accommodative global policy environment.
Silver has been outperforming gold, particularly in the domestic market. MCX Silver is trading around Rs 2,86,000 and remains firmly embedded in a strong bullish channel.
Ponmudi described silver as a high-beta outperformer, noting that consistent buying on dips points to robust demand. He said sustained strength above Rs 2,85,000 keeps the upside bias intact, with potential targets at Rs 2,90,000–Rs 3,00,000 and beyond.
On the downside, he expects fresh buying interest to emerge on corrections. A dip below Rs 2,70,000 could test the Rs 2,65,000–Rs 2,48,000 zone, which is likely to attract accumulation.
COMEX Silver is trading near $89.60 and continues to register fresh higher highs, staying well above short- and medium-term moving averages after a strong breakout.
Ponmudi said the global silver rally is being driven by strong industrial demand from sectors such as solar energy, electric vehicles, AI, and electronics, along with safe-haven flows and tightening supply conditions. He added that while brief consolidation may occur in the $83–$85 zone, a sustained move above $90 could accelerate prices towards $95–$100.
Experts advise caution for fresh lump-sum investments at current levels. While the medium- to long-term outlook for precious metals remains positive, near-term volatility cannot be ruled out after the sharp run-up.
Staggered buying on dips is seen as a more prudent strategy, especially for investors who are under-allocated to precious metals. Gold continues to offer stability and hedging benefits, while silver remains a higher-risk, higher-reward option.
At these elevated levels, market participants say disciplined entry points may matter more than chasing momentum.
