Vande Bharat Sleeper Trains to Launch: Features, Booking Process, and Fares

Indian Railways is set to launch the country’s first Vande Bharat Sleeper Train on the Kolkata–Guwahati route, promising a comfortable and hassle-free travel experience for long-distance passengers.

Unlike traditional trains, this premium sleeper service will operate without Reservation Against Cancellation (RAC) or waiting lists, ensuring that every passenger has a confirmed ticket. Additionally, the Railways has eliminated the officers’ quota, making all berths available for public booking from the very start of the advance reservation period.

Ticket Fares and CoachesThe 16-coach train will accommodate around 823 passengers across Third AC, Second AC, and First Class AC coaches. The fare system includes a minimum chargeable distance of 400 km, even for shorter journeys. Ticket fares are Rs 960 for Third AC, Rs 1,240 for Second AC, and Rs 1,520 for First Class AC, with an additional 5% GST applicable. The per-kilometre rate is Rs 2.40 for Third AC, Rs 3.10 for Second AC, and Rs 3.80 for First Class AC.

Modern Features and Safety UpgradesBuilt using indigenous Indian Railways technology, the Vande Bharat Sleeper Train is designed to reach a top speed of 180 kmph. Passenger safety has been enhanced with the advanced Kavach collision avoidance system and 24/7 CCTV surveillance. The train also features comfortable berths, automatic sliding doors, and improved cleanliness standards, offering a safe, smooth, and convenient overnight journey.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to inaugurate the Guwahati–Kolkata Vande Bharat Sleeper Train on the 17th. Indian Railways aims to operate eight Vande Bharat sleeper trains within the next six months and plans to manufacture 12 new sleeper variants by the end of 2026.
