A tragic incident stemming from a domestic dispute forced a five-year-old to spend the entire night in a forest with his dead father and mother after the couple allegedly consumed poison over a family feud. The couple’s five-year-old son reportedly spent the entire night beside his deceased father and mother before alerting locals the next morning.

The shocking episode occurred in a secluded forest area under the Kundheigola police station limits in Deogarh district. While the man died in the forest, his wife, who was in a critical condition, succumbed during treatment.

Argument While Returning Home

The deceased has been identified as Dushmant Majhi of Jiantapali village, and his wife as Rinki Majhi. According to information, the couple was returning home from the wife’s parental house on Saturday evening, accompanied by their son.

During the journey, an argument reportedly broke out between the husband and wife for reasons yet to be ascertained.

Poison Consumed in Forest

Following the dispute, the couple allegedly parked their motorcycle near the Dalak roadside and walked into a nearby forest, where they consumed pesticide. While the child witnessed the incident, he was helpless and unable to seek immediate help.

Dushmant Majhi died shortly after, while Rinki Majhi fell unconscious in critical condition.

Child Alerts Locals, Police Act

The five-year-old child reportedly stayed beside his parents throughout the night. At daybreak, he came out of the forest and stopped passers-by, informing them about the incident. Locals immediately alerted Khairapali outpost police under Kundheigola police station.

Police rescued the couple and the child and rushed them to Chhendipada hospital in Angul district. Doctors declared Dushmant Majhi dead, while Rinki Majhi later died while undergoing treatment in a critical condition.

Suspecting possible poisoning, the child is also put under medical care.
