Mahayuti to Install Mayors in Kalyan-Dombivli, Thane and Ulhasnagar After Strong Civic Poll Win

The Mahayuti will install its mayors in Kalyan-Dombivli, Ulhasnagar, and Thane municipal corporations after securing a clear public mandate. The final decision on mayoral appointments will be made following Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis's return from Davos.

The Maharashtra ruling Mahayuti alliance has asserted its dominance in key urban civic bodies, stating it will install mayors in the Kalyan-Dombivli, Thane and Ulhasnagar municipal corporations following a strong performance in the municipal polls. BJP chief Ravindra Chavan said the alliance enjoys a clear majority across all three corporations.

In Kalyan-Dombivli, the Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena emerged as the single largest party with 54 seats, while its ally BJP won 50, giving the alliance a comfortable edge. In Thane, the Shinde Sena and BJP together crossed the majority mark with a combined tally of over 100 seats in the 131-member civic body.

Ulhasnagar also saw a strong showing by Mahayuti partners, with BJP and Shiv Sena securing 37 and 36 seats respectively, further strengthened by support from two Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi corporators. Chavan said discussions on mayoral posts have already taken place and a final call will be made after a joint meeting of alliance leaders in Mumbai.

The results have reshaped local political equations, dealing a setback to opposition parties, as several corporators, including those from the MNS, extended support to the ruling alliance.
