The Madras High Court has paved the way for the Pongal release of Parasakthi, starring Sivakarthikeyan, after declining to halt the film’s release over plagiarism claims. The order was passed by Justice Senthilkumar Ramamoorthy following detailed submissions from all parties.
Directed by Sudha Kongara, Parasakthi is scheduled to hit theatres on January 10, just ahead of the Pongal festival. The legal challenge was filed by assistant director KV Rajendran, who alleged that the film’s storyline was copied from his registered script titled Chemmozhi.
Senior advocate PS Raman appeared on behalf of Sudha Kongara, while senior advocate Aravind Pandian represented the producer Dawn Pictures. After hearing arguments, the court refused to grant an interim stay on the film’s release.
However, the court directed the South Indian Film Writers’ Association to examine the plagiarism allegation and submit a report. Both the petitioner and the filmmakers have been asked to cooperate with the inquiry.
The court’s decision confirms that Parasakthi will release as planned, a development closely watched by the Tamil film industry given the film’s scale and festival timing. The movie also stars Ravi Mohan, Atharvaa, and Sreeleela.
Based on promotional material released so far, the film is believed to be set against the backdrop of the anti-Hindi protests of the 1960s, adding to the buzz around its release.
Parasakthi is set to face stiff box office competition, as it will clash with Jana Nayagan, the reported farewell film of Vijay, which releases on January 9.
