In a significant drug bust atBiju Patnaik International Airport, Bhubaneswar, officials seized a large quantity of marijuana from a passenger arriving fromBangkokon Saturday.
Acting on specific intelligence, theDirectorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI)intercepted the passenger and recovered approximately8 kilograms of marijuanafrom the luggage. The contraband was reportedlyconcealed cleverlyto evade security checks and has an estimated international market value of aroundRs 8 crore.
The passenger has beendetained for questioning, and further investigations are underway to determine the source of the drugs, their intended destination, and any links to an international trafficking network.
This comes shortly after a similar seizure at Bhubaneswar airport, wheremarijuana worth Rs 4 crorewas recovered during routine security checks, with one person detained. Officials had suspected that consignment was intended for circulation ahead of New Year celebrations.
