Delhi Government Disburses Rs 25.25 Crore in Scholarships to EWS Students
OnJanuary 12, Chief MinisterRekha Guptaawarded scholarships worthRs 25.25 croreto1,709 meritorious studentsfrom economically weaker sections, ensuring that financial assistance for higher and technical education reaches the intended beneficiaries for this academic year.
Addressing the scholarship distribution programme atThyagaraj Stadium, CM Gupta described the initiative as aninvestment in the future of Delhi’s youth. She confirmed that scholarship amounts for the academic years2023-24 and 2024-25have been directly transferred to eligible students’ bank accounts. Gupta also announced the release ofRs 19 crore in pending scholarship fundsfrom the previous government’s tenure, assuring that no funds earmarked for students’ education will remain pending in the future.
MarkingNational Youth Day, Gupta encouraged students to draw inspiration from the thoughts and philosophy ofSwami Vivekananda, emphasizing dedication and discipline in pursuing their goals. She highlighted the vital role of youth in shaping India’s progress and achieving the vision of adeveloped India by 2047, stressing that national development requires active participation and collective responsibility.
Education MinisterAshish Soodreiterated the government’s commitment to supporting disadvantaged students. He highlighted the principle ofAntyodaya, ensuring that benefits reach those at the lowest rung of society.
The government is also reviving theNarela Education City project, which had been stalled for years. The project’s budget has increased fromRs 500 crore to Rs 1,300 croreand will include shared university campuses, auditoriums, libraries, digital resources, and ICT laboratories across160 acres. The initiative aims to strengthen the education sector through effective policy implementation, with a focus on shaping future leadership.
Under theDelhi Higher and Technical Education Assistance Scheme, eligible students must:
Be from economically weaker sections
Have passedClass XII from Delhi schoolswith at least75% marks
Meet the prescribedincome criteria
The scheme ensures transparency and efficiency by transferring scholarship fundsdirectly to beneficiaries’ bank accountsthrough theDirect Benefit Transfer (DBT) system.
