Temple Worship Dispute Sparks Violent Clash in Puri, Over 20 Injured

A dispute over temple worship rights led to a violent clash between two villages in Odisha’s Puri district, leaving more than 20 people injured. Police intervened to control the situation, and several people have been detained as an investigation is underway.

Tension erupted in Odisha’s Puri district after a dispute over temple worship rights triggered a violent clash between residents of Tentulia and Bagulapari villages under Satyabadi police limits. The conflict reportedly began over the conduct of puja rituals at the Narayani Temple, located in Tentulia, which residents of Bagulapari have traditionally visited to perform worship.

According to sources, the situation escalated after some residents allegedly locked the temple, leading to a heated argument that soon turned violent. Members of both groups reportedly pelted stones at each other during the clash.

More than 20 people were injured in the incident and were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. Police personnel from Sakhigopal rushed to the spot and managed to bring the situation under control. Four persons have been detained for questioning in connection with the violence.

A heavy police force has been deployed in both villages to maintain law and order, and senior police officials are closely monitoring the situation. Authorities said efforts are underway to restore peace and prevent further escalation.
