Sudha Kongara’s historical dramaParasakthireleased in theatres on Saturday, January 10, ending weeks of uncertainty over its censor clearance. The film’s release resolved concerns among viewers and industry members who had been awaiting confirmation that it could screen publicly.

Parasakthistars Sivakarthikeyan in his 25th lead role, generating considerable curiosity prior to its release—not only for its historical subject matter but also for the milestone it represents in the actor’s career. According to Sacnilk, the film earned an estimated ₹11.50 crore net in India on Day 1, with Tamil shows recording a 62.79% occupancy. While a strong start, it fell short of the opening-day collections of Sivakarthikeyan’s recent hits,Amaran(₹24.7 crore in 2024) andMadharaasi(₹13.65 crore in 2025).

The film was approved for release at the last minute, receiving a UA certificate from the CBFC after 25 changes were made, including visual cuts and dialogue modifications.

Set in 1960s Madras,Parasakthifollows two brothers caught in the anti-Hindi imposition protests in Tamil Nadu. The film also marks Sreeleela’s Tamil debut, features Ravi Mohan as the antagonist, Atharvaa in a key supporting role, and a cameo by Basil Joseph. Produced by Dawn Pictures, it is Sudha Kongara’s first collaboration with Sivakarthikeyan.
