Sikandar Raza Confident Zimbabwe Can Deliver Top Performance in India Despite Long T20I Gap

Zimbabwe cricket team captain Sikandar Raza said his team will not use lack of recent India experience as an excuse in the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026 Super Eights. Zimbabwe, boosted by wins over top teams, are confident of delivering a strong performance and competing for a semi-final spot.

Zimbabwe captain Sikandar Raza has expressed strong confidence in his team’s ability to adapt and perform in India during the Super Eights stage of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, despite not playing a T20 International in the country for more than a decade. Zimbabwe enter a challenging group featuring cricket heavyweights like India national cricket team, South Africa national cricket team, and West Indies cricket team.

Speaking ahead of their opening Super Eights match at Wankhede Stadium, Raza emphasised that unfamiliar conditions will not be an excuse for poor performance. He said the team is focusing on preparation, training sessions, and maintaining a positive mindset rather than worrying about past experience.

Zimbabwe have been one of the biggest surprises of the tournament so far, defeating strong teams like Sri Lanka and Australia to reach the Super Eights. Their recent success has significantly boosted confidence within the squad, with players believing they can compete against the best teams in the world.

Raza, who has prior experience playing in India through franchise cricket, said adaptability and belief are key factors in international tournaments. He added that the team is motivated to prove critics wrong and will give their best effort in every match.

Zimbabwe’s inspiring run has already changed perceptions, and the team now aims to continue its momentum and push for a historic semi-final qualification in the tournament.
