Pakistan legend Shahid Afridi has openly criticised his son-in-law Shaheen Afridi after Pakistan’s disappointing exit from the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026. Despite picking up eight wickets in five matches, Shaheen struggled with an economy rate of 10.52 and endured a costly outing against Sri Lanka in the Super 8 stage.
Pakistan posted 212 in their final match but needed to restrict Sri Lanka to 147 to keep semi-final hopes alive. Shaheen conceded 48 runs in four overs, including 22 in the final over, as Pakistan narrowly won by five runs but still crashed out of the tournament.
Speaking to Samaa TV, Shahid Afridi questioned Shaheen’s tactical decisions, particularly bowling round the wicket to right-hander Dasun Shanaka, who capitalised with multiple boundaries and sixes. Afridi expressed frustration over repeated strategic errors and claimed the team was not learning from past mistakes. Reports suggest the Pakistan Cricket Board may penalise players following their underwhelming campaign.
