A second-year Economics student of Sambalpur University, Suraj Kujur, was found dead under suspicious circumstances in Room No. 52 of the Brahmaputra Hostel, Burla, on Tuesday night. A native of Kutra in Sundargarh district, Suraj was residing alone in the hostel room when his body was discovered hanging, prompting an immediate response from the Burla police and university authorities.
Sambalpur University General Secretary Pradeep Nayak confirmed the incident, stating that the hostel superintendent reported it around 8:53 pm, after which the warden, police, and the student’s parents were informed. University officials are assisting police with the ongoing investigation, while the body is scheduled for a post-mortem on Wednesday to determine the exact cause of death. Authorities are probing the matter from all angles, and further details are expected following the completion of formalities.
