Rayagada Administration Issues Heatwave Advisory; BMC Announces Measures in Bhubaneswar

The Rayagada district administration has issued an advisory to departments to prepare for possible severe heatwave conditions in the coming months. Meanwhile, Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation has announced precautionary measures, including restricting outdoor construction work during peak afternoon hours.

With temperatures gradually rising, the Rayagada district administration has issued a heatwave advisory to various departments, urging them to enhance preparedness to tackle heat-related illnesses in the coming months.

Officials warned that the district could face severe heatwave conditions as summer progresses, particularly during March, April and May. Intense heat has already been felt in several areas of the district, and authorities expect temperatures to rise further in the coming weeks.

In response, the district administration has directed multiple departments to remain alert and take preventive steps to reduce the impact of extreme heat on residents. The advisory aims to ensure coordinated action among departments and early preparedness to handle potential emergencies linked to heatwave conditions.

The Health Department has been specifically asked to strengthen its readiness to deal with cases of heatstroke and other heat-related illnesses. Authorities said medical facilities will be equipped to manage patients affected by prolonged exposure to high temperatures.

Meanwhile, the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has also issued a heatwave advisory as temperatures in the city fluctuate between 31°C and 36°C.

As part of precautionary measures, BMC has restricted outdoor construction work between 11 am and 3 pm starting March 15 to protect labourers from heat exposure. The civic body has also announced relief measures such as installing drinking water kiosks at key public places and placing water pots for stray animals.

Additionally, the BMC has activated its 24×7 control room, while Bhubaneswar Smart City Limited (BSCL) has reactivated the toll-free helpline number 1929 to assist citizens seeking help or medical advice related to heat exposure and sunstroke.

Authorities have urged residents to remain cautious as temperatures are expected to rise further in the coming months.
