New Delhi:Prime MinisterNarendra Modion Sunday strongly criticised theTrinamool Congress (TMC)government in West Bengal over the alleged mismanagement of an event attended byPresident Droupadi Murmu, calling it an insult to both the President and the Constitution.
Speaking during an event in the national capital, the Prime Minister accused the ruling party in West Bengal of showing arrogance and engaging in “dirty politics.” He said the people of the state would not forgive the alleged disrespect shown to the President.
Modi was referring to the controversy surrounding the9th International Santal Conference, which President Murmu attended inDarjeeling, West Bengalon March 7.
Addressing the issue, the Prime Minister said the alleged mismanagement of the event was unacceptable and reflected poorly on the state administration.
He stated that President Murmu, who belongs to the tribal community, had attended the event to celebrate and support the development of the Santhal community. However, according to him, the event was poorly managed by the state government.
The Prime Minister said the incident was not only disrespectful to the President but also to the Constitution of India.
During her visit to Darjeeling, PresidentDroupadi Murmureportedly expressed dissatisfaction over the arrangements made for the conference.
Reports suggested that the organisers were initially allotted a smaller venue, and the location of the event was later changed at short notice. The President raised concerns about the arrangements and management of the programme.
Following the incident, PM Modi also criticised the Trinamool Congress on social media, calling the alleged mismanagement “shameful” and “unprecedented.”
He said that people who support democracy and tribal empowerment were deeply hurt by the situation and that the incident had caused concern across the country.
The issue has triggered a political debate, with leaders from different parties reacting strongly to the controversy.
