Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday expressed confidence that India will successfully handle concerns related to LPG supply arising from the ongoing conflict in West Asia. Speaking at the NXT Summit, the Prime Minister said the government is actively working on multiple fronts to ensure that global disruptions do not affect Indian citizens.
Modi said he has full confidence in the resilience of 140 crore Indians and believes the country will overcome the crisis just as it did during the Covid-19 pandemic. He emphasized that the government’s priority is to ensure that citizens do not face difficulties due to conflicts happening in different parts of the world.
The Prime Minister also cautioned against attempts to spread panic about LPG availability and warned that strict action would be taken against black-marketing and hoarding of cooking gas cylinders. He urged state governments to strengthen monitoring systems to prevent unscrupulous elements from exploiting the situation.
Highlighting the broader impact of the West Asia conflict, Modi noted that the crisis has affected countries worldwide and triggered concerns over energy supply. However, he said India is working closely with global partners and continuously addressing supply chain disruptions to protect the country’s energy security.
The Prime Minister also spoke about India’s long-term energy strategy aimed at reducing dependence on petroleum products. He noted that ethanol blending in petrol has increased from around 1–1.5 percent before 2014 to nearly 20 percent today.
In addition, India has expanded its strategic petroleum reserves and energy infrastructure. According to Modi, the country’s petroleum reserves now exceed 50 lakh tonnes, while the number of LPG connections has increased significantly from 14 crore in 2014 to about 33 crore.
Despite global challenges, Modi said India continues to move forward steadily and remains one of the key drivers of global economic growth.
