Only two Indian athletes — Neeraj Chopra and Sachin Yadav — have been included in the World Athletics Registered Testing Pool (RTP) for the first quarter of 2026, underlining India’s limited representation at the highest level of global anti-doping surveillance.
The RTP, overseen by the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU), is the most stringent testing category in world athletics. Athletes in this pool are subject to no-notice, year-round testing and must provide detailed daily whereabouts information, including a mandatory 60-minute testing window.
Two-time Olympic medallist Neeraj Chopra has been a regular member of the RTP, reflecting his status as one of the most closely monitored athletes in the sport. Sachin Yadav is a new entrant, earning his place after a breakthrough 2025 season that included a fourth-place finish at the World Championships, where he narrowly missed a medal by just 40 centimetres with a personal best throw of 86.27 metres.
Several Indian athletes who were part of the RTP in the previous quarter — including Kishore Jena, Avinash Sable, Murali Sreeshankar, Annu Rani, and Jeswin Aldrin — have been excluded from the latest list.
The limited Indian presence in the RTP is particularly striking given the country’s ongoing doping concerns. According to the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) 2024 report, India recorded 260 positive doping cases from 7,113 samples, a positivity rate of 3.6%, more than double that of any other nation. India has topped the global list of doping offenders for three consecutive years.
By comparison, Kenya has 94 athletes and the United States 69 athletes in the RTP for the same period, reflecting a much broader elite testing base.
The data comes at a sensitive moment for Indian sport, as the country prepares to host the 2030 Commonwealth Games and continues to push its bid to host the 2036 Olympic Games. Observers say strengthening anti-doping systems and athlete monitoring will be crucial for India’s global sporting ambitions.
