Intense Cold Wave Continues to Grip Odisha; No Respite Likely Till January 4

Odisha continues to reel under severe cold wave conditions, with temperatures dipping sharply and dense fog disrupting daily life across the state. The cold spell has particularly impacted interior districts, while coastal areas are also experiencing unusually low temperatures and reduced visibility.

Odisha remains in the grip of an intense cold wave as plunging temperatures and dense fog continue to disrupt normal life across the state. Several districts are experiencing harsh winter conditions, with the chill persisting throughout the day and intensifying during night and early morning hours.

Interior districts such as Kandhamal, Koraput, Sundargarh, Keonjhar, and Mayurbhanj have been the worst affected, recording significantly low temperatures. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the cold wave conditions are expected to persist for the next few days, with no immediate relief in sight.

The Regional Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar has reported that at least 15 locations across the state recorded minimum temperatures below 10 degrees Celsius. Phulbani witnessed temperatures dropping below 6 degrees Celsius, while Jharsuguda recorded around 6.2 degrees Celsius. The chilly conditions are likely to continue until January 4.

In coastal districts, including Bhubaneswar and Cuttack, daytime temperatures have remained around 25 degrees Celsius, while night temperatures have dipped to between 12 and 14 degrees Celsius. Dense fog has further worsened conditions, reducing visibility and affecting road traffic, especially during early morning hours.

The IMD has issued a yellow warning for dense fog across several districts, including Sundargarh, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, Puri, Khordha, Kandhamal, and Nayagarh. Authorities have advised residents to exercise caution while travelling and take necessary measures to protect themselves from the cold as the wintry conditions are expected to persist till January 4.
