Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi laid the foundation stone for a new medical college and hospital in Nabarangpur and inaugurated or launched 177 development projects worth over Rs 446 crore across the district.

Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Friday laid the foundation stone for a new medical college and hospital in Nabarangpur district, marking a major boost to healthcare infrastructure in the region.

The proposed medical college will be developed at Patalguda over more than 50 acres of land. Once completed, the institution will have a capacity of 420 beds and offer 100 MBBS seats. Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister stated that the facility will significantly reduce the need for residents to travel outside the district for advanced medical treatment.

Highlighting the state government’s healthcare expansion initiatives, Majhi noted that within 20 months of assuming office, three medical colleges and hospitals in Jajpur, Kandhamal, and Talcher have already become operational.

Apart from the medical college, the Chief Minister also inaugurated and laid foundation stones for 177 development projects in Nabarangpur, collectively valued at over Rs 446 crore. Of these, 112 projects worth Rs 68 crore were inaugurated, while foundation stones were laid for 65 projects estimated at Rs 378 crore.

The projects cover multiple sectors including education, road connectivity, bridges, anganwadi centres, and other public infrastructure. Majhi emphasized that the state government is prioritising key areas such as healthcare, education, agriculture, transportation, and women’s empowerment to accelerate the district’s overall development.
