Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chief Mehbooba Mufti on Wednesday led a protest in Srinagar against the ongoing US-Israel military action targeting Iran. During the demonstration, she burned posters of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and US President Donald Trump, condemning the killing of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

Supporters of the PDP carried posters of Khamenei and raised anti-US and anti-Israel slogans. Mufti also set ablaze a poster of Jeffrey Epstein, the American financier who died in 2019 while facing sex trafficking charges and whose past associations with several high-profile figures had drawn global attention.

Sharing a video of the protest on X, Mufti posted a message expressing solidarity with Iran and opposition to those she accused of aggression. She criticised both the Government of India and the National Conference-led government in Jammu and Kashmir for what she described as silence over the attacks.

The protest comes amid escalating hostilities in West Asia, with continued strikes and retaliatory missile attacks reported between Iran, the United States, and Israel. Explosions were reported in Tehran and Jerusalem, while tensions also spread to Bahrain, Qatar, and Lebanon. The conflict has resulted in significant casualties on both sides, further intensifying regional instability.

Mufti described the killing of Khamenei as a tragic moment in history and criticised what she termed implicit and explicit support for the action by some Muslim nations, stating that history would judge those who stood for justice and those who supported oppression.
