Tension prevailed in and around Rayagada town on Friday after Maoist posters resurfaced in the Dumaguda area, close to the urban limits. The development has raised fresh security concerns in the district, coming less than a week after 15 Naxals laid down arms and joined the mainstream.
According to reports, the posters were put up in the name of the KBK Division Maoist State Secretary, allegedly signed by Megh Jani and Damburu Majhi. The content of the posters makes references to individuals identified as Sabyasachi Panda, Azad, Uday, and Nikhil, claiming that they were not tribals.
The banners also reportedly carried warnings directed at industrial establishments and the local administration, indicating an attempt by extremist elements to assert influence and send a message to authorities despite recent surrenders.
The sudden appearance of the posters has caused concern among local residents, particularly given Rayagada district’s history of Maoist activity. Soon after the matter came to light, personnel from the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) rushed to the spot and removed the posters to prevent panic and further escalation.
While no official statement has yet been issued by the police regarding the origin of the posters, security agencies are believed to be on high alert. Authorities are closely monitoring the situation to assess whether the incident signals a possible attempt at regrouping or intimidation by extremist elements in the region.
