Relief and exhaustion were evident on the faces of Indian passengers who arrived in Chennai early this morning after being stranded in Dubai for several days due to escalating conflict in West Asia. The crisis intensified following coordinated US-Israeli strikes that reportedly killed Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, triggering retaliation and widespread airspace closures across the region.

Dubai, one of the world’s busiest international transit hubs, was significantly impacted, leaving many Indian travellers unable to return home as scheduled. Among the returnees was Dharshini, who described hearing random explosive sounds near her residence during the period of heightened tensions. She said offices had shifted to remote work and most residents remained indoors, closely monitoring official advisories.

Despite the anxiety, she noted that essential services such as electricity, water, groceries, and communication networks remained stable, and credited authorities in Dubai for regular updates and visible policing. Another passenger, Sunil Gupta, who landed in Delhi, described the uncertainty as overwhelming and said his primary concern was returning safely to his family.

For many, landing back in India brought immense relief after days of tension, uncertainty, and disrupted travel plans caused by the escalating regional conflict.
