The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced that India will face Afghanistan in June 2026 for only their second Test encounter and the first since 2018. The tour will kick off with a one-off Test at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in New Chandigarh from June 6 to June 10, starting at 9:30 AM IST. This will be the first Test match held at this venue.
Following the Test, the teams will compete in a three-match One-Day International (ODI) series. The ODI fixtures will begin in Dharamshala on June 14, with subsequent games scheduled in Lucknow on June 17 and Chennai on June 20, all starting at 1:30 PM IST.
India and Afghanistan last met in Test cricket in June 2018, when India won convincingly inside two days at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. That match marked Afghanistan’s debut in Test cricket, where India recorded their largest-ever innings victory at the time. Since then, Afghanistan has played 11 Tests, securing three wins, including a series victory over Zimbabwe in January 2025.
The June 2026 tour offers a multi-format contest for both sides early in the international cricket calendar, allowing India and Afghanistan to engage in red-ball and white-ball cricket ahead of the year’s major fixtures.
