India are set to play additional T20 Internationals during their August 2026 tour of Sri Lanka, with the matches aimed at supporting relief and rebuilding efforts in regions affected by Cyclone Ditwah, according to reports.
The development was confirmed by Shammi Silva, chairman of Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC), who said the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had agreed to accommodate extra T20Is as a gesture of support. The India tour is part of the ongoing ICC World Test Championship cycle.
According to Silva, the additional matches are expected to help raise funds and keep public attention focused on recovery and reconstruction in cyclone-hit areas. He added that the move underlines India’s solidarity with Sri Lanka following the extensive damage caused by Cyclone Ditwah.
Silva also revealed that India had earlier shown willingness to tour Sri Lanka in late December to play two standalone T20Is exclusively for cyclone relief. However, those matches could not be organised due to logistical constraints and the absence of a broadcast partner.
“There was willingness from India to come down at the end of December to play two T20Is to raise funds, but there was simply no time to organise it, especially with no broadcaster available,” Silva was quoted as saying.
India’s 2026 international calendar is already a packed one, featuring a home white-ball series against New Zealand, participation in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, and an overseas limited-overs tour of England, alongside commitments under the ICC’s Future Tours Programme.
Later in the year, India are also scheduled to host Sri Lanka for a home limited-overs series, comprising three ODIs and three T20Is.
