India secured a thrilling seven-run victory over England in a high-scoring semi-final to book their place in the ICC Men's T20 World Cup final. The nail-biting contest kept fans on edge as England came close to chasing down a massive target of 254 at the Wankhede Stadium.
After being asked to bat first, India posted a formidable total of 253/7 in 20 overs. Sanju Samson led the charge with a blistering 89 off 42 balls. He received strong support from Ishan Kishan (39 off 18), Shivam Dube (43 off 25), Hardik Pandya (27 off 12) and Tilak Varma (21 off 7), helping India set a daunting target.
England’s chase was powered by a sensational innings from Jacob Bethell, who smashed 105 off just 48 balls and brought his team within touching distance of victory. However, England eventually fell short, finishing at 246/7 in their 20 overs.
India’s bowlers had a difficult outing as England’s batters launched an aggressive assault. Varun Chakravarthy, Arshdeep Singh, and Axar Patel were taken for runs, but the team maintained composure in crucial moments.
Axar Patel played a key role in the field, producing outstanding catches including a stunning effort to dismiss Will Jacks. Hardik Pandya also delivered a crucial run-out of Bethell in the final over, while Jasprit Bumrah bowled a disciplined spell, conceding just 33 runs in four overs.
Former India wicketkeeper Dinesh Karthik praised India’s improved fielding performance after earlier struggles in the tournament. Samson also credited Bumrah for his contribution during the presentation ceremony, saying the fast bowler deserved the Player of the Match award.
With this victory, India advance to the final where they will face New Zealand national cricket team, carrying confidence and valuable lessons from a tense semi-final battle.
