India batter Tilak Varma will miss the last two T20Is against New Zealand after recovering from a recent abdomen injury and successful surgery. Varma, who suffered acute testicular pain while playing for Hyderabad in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, has been undergoing rehabilitation at the BCCI Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru. Although he has resumed training, he requires more time to regain full match fitness.
Shreyas Iyer will replace Varma in the squad for the remainder of the series. In Varma’s absence, Ishan Kishan has made a sensational contribution, scoring 112 runs in three innings, including a blistering 76 off 32 balls in the second T20I. Varma is expected to join the squad in Mumbai on 3 February ahead of India’s warm-up fixtures for the ICC T20 World Cup 2026.
