A tragic accident inside the IIT Bhubaneswar campus on Monday night claimed the life of a PhD student and left another critically injured, prompting a police investigation into the circumstances.

The accident occurred when the scooter carrying the two students collided with a divider within the campus. Campus authorities and police rushed to the scene immediately and took the injured students to a hospital. Unfortunately, one of them succumbed to his injuries.

The deceased has been identified as Shankhashubhra Chakraborty, a PhD scholar from Kolkata. The other student, Shakti Sagar Srivastav, also a PhD scholar from Kolkata, remains in critical condition at a private hospital.

Police have launched a probe to determine the exact cause of the accident, examining how the scooter hit the divider and gathering other relevant details related to the incident.
