Former Indian cricketer Harbhajan Singh has shared his views on the Bangladesh Cricket Board’s (BCB) request to shift its ICC T20 World Cup 2026 matches away from India over safety concerns.
Emphasising India’s proven track record as a safe and welcoming host, Harbhajan noted that international teams have toured the country for decades without facing security issues. He added, however, that the final decision rests with the BCB and the International Cricket Council (ICC), and that Bangladesh has the right to choose where it feels comfortable playing.
The former off-spinner also expressed concern over recent developments in Bangladesh, particularly incidents involving the Hindu community, calling them unfortunate and unacceptable.
“India has always opened its doors to every team. Whatever is happening there is wrong. If Bangladesh feels uneasy about travelling, the ICC must examine the request carefully and take a fair decision,” Harbhajan said.
Urging a measured approach, he stressed that the ICC should base its verdict on facts and ground realities rather than emotions or public pressure, especially with the T20 World Cup fast approaching.
