Jaishankar Urges Poland to Denounce Terrorism, Flags Unfair Trade Tariffs on India

During a bilateral meeting with Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar underscored the need for Poland to adopt zero tolerance for terrorism and refrain from supporting activities that bolster terrorist infrastructure in India’s neighbourhood. Highlighting the long-standing threat of cross-border terrorism, Jaishankar stressed that Poland, familiar with regional security challenges, should play a responsible role in countering such threats.

Sikorski acknowledged the concerns, citing recent attacks in Poland, including the October 2025 railway explosion linked to cross-border tensions with Ukraine.

Jaishankar also raised issues regarding “selective targeting” of India through US-imposed tariffs on Russian oil imports, calling them unfair and unjustified. He highlighted Western double standards and emphasized that India’s imports are driven by global energy market shifts following the Ukraine conflict. The discussion comes amid ongoing trade tensions with the US, where tariffs on Indian goods have reached up to 75%, including new measures targeting trade with Iran.

The meeting reflected India’s dual focus on regional security cooperation and safeguarding its economic interests in global trade.
