Amid ongoing speculation over leadership within the Congress in Karnataka, Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar said he was exercising “utmost patience” and had no intention of triggering any “revolution” over the Chief Minister’s post. Shivakumar, who also serves as Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) president, clarified that he has never publicly demanded a change in leadership.
Addressing reporters, he stated that the CM post can only be discussed if it becomes vacant and emphasised that any such matter remains strictly between him, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, and the party high command. He underscored that he does not wish to harm the party’s interests or cause distress to its workers.
The remarks come amid talk of a possible power tussle within the ruling Congress and allegations in some quarters regarding phone tapping. Shivakumar said he was unaware of such claims, noting that the Chief Minister and Home Minister had already responded to them.
On reports that central leaders such as Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi had discussed the Karnataka leadership issue, Shivakumar said he had no information and had not raised the matter with anyone. Asked about a possible leadership change after the state budget, he responded that “time will answer and decide.”
Describing himself as a “street fighter” who knows how to fight but not for power, he reiterated that his struggle has never been within the party. He also expressed openness to generational change in the organisation, stating that six years as KPCC president was sufficient and that new leadership should be encouraged.
