A tragic road accident claimed the life of a six-year-old boy and left four others injured after a speeding car rammed into pedestrians in the Banthra area of Lucknow on Thursday evening.
According to police, the incident occurred around 6 pm when a Swift car, allegedly driven at high speed, first collided with an autorickshaw and then ploughed into people walking along the roadside near a Hanuman temple. The driver, identified as Gaurab Singh, is a Class 12 student who was reportedly returning from a farewell party at the time of the incident.
The injured have been identified as Armaan (12), Awadh Bihari (42), Sadhana Verma (35), Meena Devi (60), and six-year-old Dikshant Patel. All the injured were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment. Dikshant Patel, who sustained critical injuries, was later referred to another medical facility, where he succumbed during treatment.
ACP (Krishna Nagar) Rajneesh Verma told Press Trust of India that the driver has been taken into custody. An FIR has been registered against him under charges related to reckless driving and endangering human life. Further investigation into the incident is currently underway.
