A planned official visit of BSNL Director (CFA) Vivek Banzal to Prayagraj on February 25 was cancelled following a major controversy over an elaborate hospitality protocol that surfaced on social media.
The leaked document revealed minute-to-minute arrangements covering reception, transport, meals, religious visits, and even personal care after a proposed bath at the Triveni Sangam. It also included instructions for managing towels, bath kits, and personal belongings.
More than 50 BSNL officials were reportedly assigned specific duties, including escort services, hospitality coordination, and logistical support. The scale of preparations drew sharp criticism online, with many questioning the use of public resources and calling it an example of VIP culture in public sector undertakings.
Following the backlash, BSNL authorities cancelled the visit and declared the protocol invalid. The incident has reignited debate about administrative accountability and the extent of privileges given to senior officials.
