Bharat Coking Coal Limited (BCCL) has opened its initial public offering (IPO) for subscription on January 9, 2026, marking the first mainboard IPO of the year. The issue will close on January 13, with allotment expected on January 14 and listing tentatively scheduled for January 16 on the BSE and NSE.

The IPO is a book-built issue worth Rs 1,071.11 crore and is entirely an offer for sale (OFS) of 46.57 crore shares, meaning the company will not receive any fresh capital from the issue.

The price band has been fixed at Rs 21–23 per share, with a lot size of 600 shares. Retail investors need to invest a minimum of Rs 13,800 at the upper end of the price band.

According to market sources, the grey market premium (GMP) for the IPO currently stands at around Rs 9.25, suggesting an estimated listing price of Rs 32.25 per share—a potential gain of over 40%. While the GMP has cooled slightly compared to earlier levels, it continues to remain in positive territory, indicating sustained interest.

Market experts believe the IPO offers investors exposure to a strategically critical PSU asset. Bharat Coking Coal, a wholly owned subsidiary of Coal India Limited, plays a dominant role in India’s coking coal supply, catering largely to the steel sector.

Analysts have recommended investors to subscribe to the IPO for healthy listing gains, citing steady cash flows, strong reserve base, high entry barriers, and long-term demand visibility. However, investors are advised to note that grey market trends are unofficial and actual listing performance will depend on market conditions and subscription response.
