With allotment due today, investor attention has shifted to potential listing gains following one of the strongest subscription responses seen so far this year.
TheBCCL IPOwitnessed exceptionally strong demand across all investor categories. The grey market premium (GMP) also strengthened toward the close of the bidding period, reflecting rising optimism around the issue.
By the end of subscription onJanuary 13, the IPO was subscribed143.85 times overall. The retail investor portion saw healthy participation, subscribing49.37 times, indicating strong interest from small investors. The non-institutional investor (NII) category was subscribed240.49 times, while the qualified institutional buyer (QIB) segment recorded the highest demand at310.81 times, excluding anchor investors. The sharp surge in QIB and NII participation on the final day highlighted aggressive bidding as investors rushed to secure allotment in the heavily oversubscribed issue.
According to the latest available data, thegrey market premium (GMP) stands at Rs 13.4, last updated onJanuary 14, 2026, around 7:58 am.
Based on the upper price band ofRs 23, the estimated listing price works out to approximatelyRs 36.4 per share, suggesting a potential listing gain of about58.26%, in line with current grey market trends.
Market participants caution that GMP is an unofficial indicator and can change rapidly. However, a rising GMP after the close of bidding generally reflects positive sentiment ahead of allotment and listing.
Gaurav Garg, Research Analyst atLemonn Markets Desk, said the strong response to the IPO reflects confidence in the company’s monopolistic position in India’s coking coal segment and its long-term demand visibility.
“Exceptional oversubscription in the NII category indicates strong valuation comfort and expectations of listing gains. Robust participation from retail and shareholder segments highlights broad-based investor confidence in the Coal India ecosystem. While QIB demand remained relatively measured, the overall subscription trend points to favourable secondary market sentiment, supported by the scarcity value of a pure-play coking coal producer and steady demand from the steel sector,” he said.
TheBharat Coking Coal IPOis a book-built issue worthRs 1,071.11 crore, consisting entirely of an offer for sale (OFS) of46.57 crore shares, with no fresh issue component. As a result, the company will not receive any proceeds from the IPO.
The issue opened for subscription onJanuary 9, 2026, and closed onJanuary 13, 2026. Allotment is expected to be finalised onJanuary 14, 2026, with shares scheduled to list on theBSE and NSE on January 16, 2026. The price band was set atRs 21–23 per share, and the lot size is600 shares, translating to a minimum retail investment ofRs 13,800at the upper price band.
Incorporated in1972,Bharat Coking Coal Limitedis engaged in the production of coking coal, non-coking coal, and washed coal. It is a wholly owned subsidiary ofCoal India Limited.
As ofSeptember 30, 2025, the company operated34 mines, including four underground mines, 26 opencast mines, and four mixed mines. Coking coal remains its primary product, largely supplied to the steel sector.
As ofApril 1, 2024, Bharat Coking Coal had estimated coking coal reserves of approximately7,910 million tonnes. In FY25, the company accounted for58.50% of India’s total domestic coking coal production.
While current GMP levels suggest strong listing gains, actual performance will depend on broader market conditions and investor sentiment closer to the listing date. Grey market trends, though indicative, are not a guarantee of listing performance.
