Bangladesh Stands Firm on T20 World Cup Boycott Over Security Concerns in India

Bangladesh Cricket Board refuses to play T20 World Cup matches in India, citing credible security threats to players and officials. The BCB proposes Sri Lanka as an alternative venue but ICC has rejected the request.

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has declared it will not participate in the T20 World Cup in India due to unresolved security concerns. Key officials, including Sports Advisor Asif Nazrul and BCB President Aminul Islam Bulbul, emphasized the risk to players, journalists, and fans, citing past incidents like Mustafizur Rahman’s IPL withdrawal under extremist pressure. Despite ICC assurances and finalised schedules in India, Bangladesh has repeatedly requested Sri Lanka as a safe alternative venue, which has been denied. The BCB insists its decision prioritizes safety and stresses that it is not politically motivated but rooted in real threats.
