Anthropic Appoints Irina Ghose as Managing Director for India
Anthropichas appointedIrina Ghoseas theManaging Director of its India office, ahead of the official opening of its first location inBengaluru. Her appointment marks a significant step for the AI startup as it plans to expand operations in India, following strong adoption of itsClaude chatbotand other AI tools. Ghose is a veteran of the tech industry, having spent overtwo decades at Microsoftin various leadership roles.
Chris Ciauri,Managing Director of International at Anthropic, emphasized Ghose’s role in a press release:"As we grow our teams and deepen engagement across India’s public and private sectors, Irina will ensure our approach is grounded in local insight and aligned with our mission."
Ghose also shared on LinkedIn that her role would involve collaborating withorganisations, developers, and startups across Indiato leverage AI for operational transformation and value creation.
India is a key market for Anthropic, boasting thesecond-largest user base for Claude. According to the company’s Economic Index, nearly half of Claude.ai usage in India is concentrated incomputational and mathematical tasks, highlighting the country’s technical focus and growing demand for AI-powered solutions.
Anthropic also announced that CEODario Amodeiand other senior executives will visit India in February toofficially inaugurate the Bengaluru officeand participate in theIndia AI Impact Summit. Ghose noted that the India operations will enable morelocalized adoption of AIin the country.
Ghose brings extensive experience in the Indian tech sector. She previously served asManaging Director of Microsoft Indiafor over two and a half years and spent more than20 years at Microsoftin various roles, includingChief Operating Officer (COO) of India operationsandExecutive Director for Microsoft’s Cloud Business.
Before joining Microsoft in 2001, she had brief stints atHCLandWipro.
