"Delhi Demolition Drive: AIMIM Chief Alleges Mosque Land Razed, Waqf Act Changes Under Fire"

AIMIM chiefAsaduddin Owaisialleged that part of aWaqf-owned mosque propertyin Delhi was demolished during an anti-encroachment drive, calling theWaqf (Amendment) Acta “black law.” The incident took place near theFaiz-e-Elahi mosquein Ramlila Maidan on the night between Tuesday and Wednesday.

Violence erupted after social media claims suggested the mosque oppositeTurkman Gatewas being razed. Police said several people hurled stones, injuring five officers, prompting the use of tear gas to disperse the crowd.

Addressing a rally for theChhatrapati Sambhajinagar civic polls, Owaisi said the property, recognized as Waqf land under a 1970 gazette notification, was demolished around 1:30 am. He alleged the Delhi High Court issued an incorrect order and criticized the Delhi Waqf Board for failing to protect the mosque, saying the matter would now move to theSupreme Court.

Owaisi accused the amended Waqf law of targetingMuslim religious properties, including mosques and graveyards, and blamed national and regional leaders, includingPrime Minister Narendra Modi, for supporting it. Urging voters ahead of the January 15 civic elections, he called for support forAIMIMto safeguard religious sites. He also emphasized constitutional rights to worship and freedom of faith, noting that the Constitution begins with “We, the people” rather than “Bharat Mata.”
