A middle-aged man was burnt alive after a violent dispute with neighbours in Gujarat’s Kutch district, police officials said on Sunday. The incident occurred in the Rotary Nagar area of Gandhidham, where a quarrel reportedly erupted over sitting on the veranda of a house.
The victim, identified as Karsan Maheshwari (50), allegedly got into an altercation with three women and a man from the neighbourhood on Friday. Police said the confrontation turned violent when the accused attacked him with weapons, forcing him to flee and take shelter in a bathroom. The attackers reportedly chased him, dragged him out, poured diesel over his body and set him on fire.
Maheshwari ran out in flames, after which local residents tried to extinguish the fire by pouring water on him. He was rushed to a hospital in Bhuj but succumbed to severe burn injuries during treatment.
A complaint was filed by the victim’s elder brother, Hirabhai Maheshwari, who said the incident followed repeated disputes with neighbours. Police have arrested three of the accused — two women and one man — while another woman is absconding. A murder case has been registered, and further investigation is underway.
