An interfaith couple, Kajal (19) and Arman (27), were found dead in a forest in Moradabad, Uttar Pradesh, prompting a police investigation that points to an alleged honour killing. Both were residents of Umri Sabzipur village, with Kajal being a student.
The couple had gone missing three days prior, leading their families to lodge missing persons reports. The man’s family filed a report on Wednesday, while the woman’s family did so the following morning. Hours later, their bodies were discovered in a forest behind a temple, a few metres from the village.
Senior police officer Satpal Antil stated that investigations revealed Kajal’s brothers were involved in the murder. Two of the brothers have been arrested, and further legal proceedings are underway. The bodies were recovered in the presence of a magistrate, and postmortem examinations are being conducted to determine the cause of death and other details.
Police have registered a case against all three brothers, and further inquiry is ongoing to ascertain the motive and circumstances of the crime.
